Hugo Gamboa, professor in the Department of Physics at NOVA FCT and researcher at LIBPhys (Laboratory of Instrumentation, Biomedical Engineering and Radiation Physics) at NOVA FCT, leads the ASTROPOWER project, which received funding from the Portuguese Space Agency within the scope of the PROSSE 2024 competition ( PROdex for Science in Space Exploration).
The NOVA FCT project aims to develop new technologies to mitigate the loss of muscle power in astronauts through Acoustic Biofeedback techniques for myotatic tension. This new methodology can, in turn, be applied to combat muscle loss related to aging.
PROSSE 2024 aims to finance scientific projects in the area of space exploration in Portugal, supporting national participation in the PRODEX program of the European Space Agency (ESA). Of the 14 applications, only two received approval.
