COMPETITION FOR GRANTING ONE RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP

A tender is open for the attribution of Research grant within the scope of the R&D project CALCEUS”, funded by CCA nº13040106, under the following conditions:

1. Scientific Area:: Biomedical engineering

2. Mandatory requirements:

Degree in Biomedical Engineering, attending a cycle of studies leading to a master's degree in Biomedical Engineering. Candidates must be currently studying a master's degree with a strong research component in biomedical.

For holders of a bachelor's degree obtained in foreign higher education institutions, it is required to register the recognition of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions and register the conversion of the respective final classification into the Portuguese classification scale, or alternatively, a declaration of honor from the applicant that he/she has obtained the recognition of the foreign degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree by the application deadline.

Preferred factors:: Have knowledge of instrumentation and testing of prototypes in a clinical context

3. Work Plan: The main objectives of the project are to lay the foundations and initiate technical conditions for the design, development, production, and validation of instrumented and customizable footwear, with a special focus on the diabetic foot. In particular, the aim is to study, identify/propose, produce, test and evaluate a technical solution for standardizing the pressure between the sole of the foot and the insole.

Develop/integrate adequate instrumentation to measure the pressure distribution between the sole of the foot and the insole, allowing its monitoring over time;

Develop a customizable insole (for example, made up of different modules, made of different materials with different hardness/elasticity), which allows for uniform pressure between the sole of the foot and the insole, depending on the monitored pressure distribution;

This scholarship will have to:

• Experimental characterization tests in individuals without associated pathology;

• Experimental characterization tests and clinical pre-validation with diabetic individuals;

• Develop a platform (software) to visualize pressure data;

4. Applicable legislation and regulations:

Law no. 40/2004, of 18 August, amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of 27 August (Statute of the Scientific Research Fellowship) and amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of 29 October and Law No. 12 / 2013 of 29 January; by Decree-Law No. 89/2013, of 9 July and by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of 28 August; Research Foundation Regulations of the Science and Technology Foundation, I.P., in force ( https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2019.pdf ).
