3D printing: Biomedical Applications

 Abstract:

Since the appearance of 3D printing more than thirty years ago, many are the activity sectors that have been impacted by it. In healthcare in particular, the integration of this technology has a wide variety of applications ranging from simple pedagogical anatomical models to patient-specific products such as implants and prosthetics. However, the solutions provided by this technique are not limited to structural applications. In fact, nowadays it is possible to print in a variety of materials allowing for the development of tailored drugs for individual treatment and even skin tissues. In this seminar, we will see how the different techniques of 3D printing are being used nowadays in the healthcare sector and what to expect in the future from this technology.

 

 

Tiago Nunes Bio:

Tiago Nunes graduated in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Sorbonne Université in 2018. In 2020, he completed his master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering at the same university and, during this time, he was also enrolled in the European master program MTiH promoted by EIT Health addressing innovation and entrepreneurship in healthcare. During his master’s internship, he contributed to the development of a biosignals acquisition device and currently he takes part in the Eternity project where he conducts his research at PLUX Wireless Biosignals in Lisbon focusing on the development of new guidelines that include EMI management for the development of wireless wearable medical devices in SME’s.
