For the last 5 years, Sofia Pessanha has been refining methodologies for determining biomarkers for human diseases and assessing the impact of environmental exposures on human health. The three main areas of research are:
Sustainable Methodologies for Biomarker Analysis: leveraging expertise in X-ray Fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy, innovative approaches have been devised to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of biomarker detection, thereby advancing early diagnosis and treatment strategies in diseases such as Cancer and Parkinson’s disease.
Spectroscopic Tools for Dental Diagnostics: these tools offer non-invasive and rapid assessment techniques for detecting dental diseases and monitoring treatment outcomes, revolutionizing the field of oral health care.
Evaluation of Environmental Contamination impact on Human Health employing Zebrafish or Wistar rat models. By integrating spectroscopic techniques with comprehensive data analysis, valuable insights have been gained into the mechanisms underlying environmental toxicity and potential interventions to mitigate adverse health effects.
