"Wind Power and Hands-on Aspects of Small Hybrid Power Installations"
Mestre Paulo Jorge Santos Bonifácio
4ª, 7 de abril de 2021
Abstract:
Windfarms in the several megawatts range have found a strong footing in Portugal since the earlies 2000s. The same has not been true for small wind turbines in local households. This situation can be partially attributed to misconceptions and lack of proper knowledge and training from vendors and installers, who fail to properly clarify the potential clients of the most significant aspects of wind power and its requirements. This seminar will try to explain and provide an inside view of some of those aspects. Looking at the wind as a resource, it’s evaluation methods, the machines to harvest that energy, wind turbines, and guidelines for evaluating potential installation locations. Finally, three small hybrid installations will be presented and discussed, showing problems, solutions and relevant takes on each for those sites.
