Advancing Biomedical Engineering and Assistive Technologies

Out of 128 proposals recently funded by Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Networks, two were accepted in partnership with Nova, financing the research of 22 new PhD students across Europe, including two who will join NOVA's Biomedical Engineering Doctoral Program. These networks will facilitate a robust exchange of researchers and students, promoting scientific strengthening across Europe. The collaboration with KU Leuven (Belgium) will focus on Project AERIALIST, researching assistive technologies to improve communication in the presence of limitations. The collaboration with Eindhoven University of Technology - TU/e (Netherlands) is centered on the Pattern project. This research explores the intersection of electromagnetic compatibility, materials engineering, system safety, and sustainability, specifically applied to safety-critical products in medical contexts. Both collaborations are led by Professor Hugo Gamboa and will be conducted in the Biosignals Group of the Physics Department and of LIBPHYS-UNL.
